Recruitment for summer associates begins with resume review, followed by on-campus and telephone interviews of second year law students. We invite approximately 10 to 15 students interviewed to participate in a full-day visit to our office in Milwaukee to meet with all of the members of the Recruitment Committee and other attorneys in the firm.
Although there are no guarantees that a summer associate will become a full-time associate upon graduation, we hire summer clerks fully expecting that they will demonstrate the skills necessary to receive a job offer. We hire the most promising candidates who illustrate a likelihood of long-term success within our firm. Our ten-week summer program will provide you with concentrated experience in three legal areas: business and corporate law, commercial litigation, or labor and employment law. Summer associates work on cases with both shareholders and associates. There is no "typical" assignment at Davis & Kuelthau. We expect that summer associates will do more than research. Depending on the practice areas, a summer associate could:
attend depositions
appear in court alongside Davis & Kuelthau attorneys
attend arbitration or other administrative hearings
draft briefs, contracts, or other documents
assist with mediation sessions
attend witness or client conferences
We introduce summer associates to the culture and operation of our firm, and cover topics such as billing, marketing, and library services.
If you are interested in applying for a summer associate position, please contact your Career Services office for information about an on-campus interview with us or submit your resume directly to:
