Davis & Kuelthau and the Association of Corporate Counsel – Wisconsin Chapter (ACC-WI) hosted an afternoon of CLE credit and entertainment among fellow ACC members and prospective members. Two business/legal topics were presented at the Stackner Theater.
PROGRAM I: 3:30 PM – 4:20 PM
Labor & Employment: Critical Wage & Hour, Joint Employment, and Immigration Changes.
With wage & hour laws likely to change by year-end, in particular, those related to so-called “white-collar overtime exemptions,” employers need to brace for a significant impact on their workforce and overall operational expenses. Labor & Employment Shareholder, Laurie Meyer, will highlight the proposed changes in the law and provide implementable steps for navigating the conversion of your workforce. In addition, she will discuss developments at the NLRB with regard to joint employment relationships – which may affect your workforce whether it is unionized or not. Immigration Counsel, Hugo Rojas, will address additional workforce impacts stemming from current immigration law. Who is legally employable in today’s market? What is the latest on Form I-9?
PROGRAM II: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM
Litigation Management: Implementable Strategies for Cost Control.
Recognizing the continued demand for change in managing litigation, particularly cost management, Litigation Shareholders, Sue Schellinger and Jim Braza, will provide a deep dive perspective on implementable practices to avoid overspending and poor results. Topics to be addressed will include: example strategic uses of limitation of liability provisions in certain contracts, emphasis on sample drafting provisions, demystifying recoverability of attorneys’ fees in disputes, and the latest trends on utilizing arbitration as a remedy.
