MILWAUKEE, WI – Davis|Kuelthau is pleased to announce that litigation attorneys Matthew R. McClean, Sherry D. Coley, and Elizabeth K. Miles have been appointed to serve two-year terms in various leadership roles for the State Bar of Wisconsin.
Matthew McClean was appointed to serve as Chair on the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Section Leaders Council (SLC). The SLC is comprised of representatives from each of the Bar’s twenty four sections. It facilitates effective education and support of individual bar members through active participation in Bar governance. The Chair presides over and runs the Council meetings and helps drive the agenda during the year.
Matt has been a member of the firm’s Milwaukee office and Litigation Team since 2006. He focuses his practice in the area of construction litigation and also represents clients in all aspects of litigation over commercial contracts, real property claims, and intellectual property matters. Matt’s primary client base includes small to mid-size businesses, construction companies, and municipalities. He also works with individuals who have contract, construction and high-fee disputes.
Matt, a graduate of Marquette University Law School, has served on the board of the State Bar’s Construction and Public Contracting Section for the Wisconsin State Bar since 2009 and was the Chairman of the Section from 2012-2013. His accomplishments in the legal industry proudly include recognition by Best Lawyers® in America – Construction Law, Litigation-Construction (2013-2018), Best Lawyers®, Lawyer of the Year for Construction Law (2018), M Magazine, Leading Lawyers (2014), Wisconsin Super Lawyers®, Rising Star (2007-2012), and Wisconsin Super Lawyers® (2013-2017).
Sherry Coley and Elizabeth (Liz) Miles were appointed to serve on the Board of Governors and will help manage and direct the affairs and activities of the State Bar. The board is comprised of members elected from the various State Bar districts, State Bar organizations and Wisconsin Supreme Court. Sherry will serve as the representative for Brown County (District 14) and Liz will serve as the representative for Milwaukee County (District 2).
Sherry practices in the areas of complex business litigation with an emphasis on financial services litigation and product liability. During her 15 years of practice, Sherry has earned significant trial experience in both state and federal courts and jury trial representing clients in appeals pending in the state appellate courts of Wisconsin and the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. In the area of product liability, she has represented manufacturers in actions involving personal injury, wrongful death and property damage. Additionally, she has represented financial institutions in state and federal court on a variety of commercial lending disputes, including defense of counterclaims raised in response to foreclosure or deficiency actions, and disputes arising from insolvent borrowers, including proceedings in bankruptcy court.
Sherry is a Marquette University Law School graduate and has been recognized as a Fellow by the Wisconsin Law Foundation, a Fellow by the American Bar Foundation, and was recognized as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer®, Rising Star for seven consecutive years. She has also been selected as 2018 Woman in the Law by the Wisconsin Law Journal.
Liz has over eight years of experience practicing environmental and construction litigation. Liz also is the municipal prosecutor for the Villages of Whitefish Bay and Bayside. Liz is the Treasurer of the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association, member of the Milwaukee Bar Association, member of Centro Legal’s event committee, and served on the board of directors for the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center. She is a Marquette University Law School graduate and has been recognized as an Up and Coming Lawyer by the Wisconsin Law Journal and has been honored for her federal pro bono service.
Sherry, Matt and Liz will begin serving in their roles on July 1, 2018.
