Milwaukee, WI – Joseph S. Heino, a shareholder with Davis & Kuelthau in Milwaukee, has recently released a new book titled Intellectual Property for the Medical Professional. Heino, a local intellectual property attorney, also published the fiction novel, “Seamless,” a Midwestern ghost story based on actual events in Northern Wisconsin.
Heino’s new book details his personal experiences as a registered U.S. Patent attorney and provides a concise overview of patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret concepts protected under U.S. Law. Developed for the medical profession, it also helps to recognize what intellectual property is and gives an understanding of the mechanisms that are available to protect it. Importantly, it is written in plain English and avoids the use of “legalese” whenever possible.
“My goal with this book is to help the medical profession understand the basics of intellectual property by using terminology that is familiar to them and by providing examples that are relevant to their profession,” said Heino about the guide. “It is designed to help medical professionals identify and protect intangible business assets, and importantly, learn more about the mechanisms that are available to protect them.”
Heino is experienced in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law, as well as licensing and franchising. He is a member of numerous industry related associations and has been recognized with various career honors, including his recent Legal Assistance award by the Small Business Administration. He is a frequent presenter and has extensively written on the topic of intellectual property. Heino received his J.D. from Marquette University Law School and his B.S.E.E., magna cum laude, from Marquette University.
